Gold is a highly durable metal and one of the best conductive materials in the world. If it werent so expensive, all electric wire would be gold. This high durability socket pays for itself with long and useful life and by ensuring exceptional conductivity with its gold plated contact plate. Female plugs will fit any brand or manufacturer's body cord--they are standard. This german-style (ball goes over the plug of the body cord to firmly and safely hold it in place in order to prevent the cord from coming out of the socket) is durable and is the most commonly preferred socket in the world (more so that the french or english designs). Large opening easily goes over any tang size and can be adjusted for left-right handed fencers by twisting the socket 180 degrees.
